[DISCUSSION] A Possible Path for Terra Luna Classic in 2026
Proposal to Strengthen Core Infrastructure and Developer Support —
Background
Since the crash, the Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) chain has struggled to find a unified direction and a clear sense of identity.
There is ongoing uncertainty about what this chain truly represents and which goals it should pursue — and with what means.
This lack of clarity has weakened the foundation of the network.
The community has repeatedly expressed frustration over the absence of visible progress, missing investments, and risk aversion.
Potential developers are often discouraged from contributing because expectations, standards, and compensation models remain undefined.
This discussion aims to establish that foundation and possibly change the overall perception of LUNC.
The proposal: Position Terra Luna Classic in 2026 as a reliable and developer-friendly base layer.
Objective
The goal is to make Terra Luna Classic a stable infrastructure layer that:
-
Prioritizes security and reliability,
-
Ensures continuous operation,
-
Creates a foundation for sustainable development,
-
And enables innovation within the LUNC ecosystem.
This means funding the essential functions required to keep the chain current, secure, and attractive for builders.
1. Maintaining a Functional Chain
Goal:
Ensure that the chain remains operational, secure, and properly maintained.
Implementation:
-
Fund up to 3 technical maintainers (chain monitors) through the Community Pool.
-
Compensation: up to $2,000 per person per month.
-
Duration: 3 months (vesting). Trusted contributors with proven track records may request up to 6 months.
-
Note: Voluntary, unpaid contributions remain welcome, as per previous governance precedents.
2. Establishing a Reliable Test Environment
Background:
For more than two years, the testnet has operated with only two active validators (with brief exceptions).
This is not sufficient for safe testing of upgrades or features.
Solution:
-
Fund 5 testnet validators through the chain.
-
Estimated cost: around $100/month per validator.
-
Volunteers may apply to run validators cost-effectively.
Goal:
Ensure a stable and realistic testnet environment that supports safe pre-deployment testing.
3. Strengthening Cosmos Connectivity
Background:
Reliable relayers are essential for cross-chain transactions and interoperability.
Currently, relayers are privately funded by individual community members, which is not sustainable.
Currently an own Discussion: Fund IBC Relaying Activity
Solution:
-
Finance 3 relayers for 1 year through the Community Pool.
-
Focus on long-term stability, cost efficiency, and accountability.
Goal:
Maintain stable connectivity between Terra Luna Classic and other Cosmos chains, ensuring continued participation in the broader ecosystem.
4. Developer and Project Support
Background:
Every blockchain relies on developers, innovation, and new projects.
LUNC currently struggles to attract and retain developers due to tax issues, lack of documentation, and limited funding.
Projects are taxed on every transaction during development, often long before any return on investment can be achieved.
Solution:
a) Support for Existing Projects
-
Introduce a tax whitelist for existing Layer 2 or dApp projects that provide measurable value to the ecosystem.
-
The whitelist module has been completed and audited since Q3 2025.
-
Projects may apply via governance with proof of contribution.
b) Funding for New Projects
-
New projects can apply for up to $30,000 in CP funding,
-
contingent upon project utility and progress reports,
-
and must return the funds if the project fails to deliver.
-
-
To protect the Community Pool, funding is limited to one project per quarter until finances improve.
Goal:
Encourage innovation and attract new developers while supporting existing contributors in a sustainable way.
Final Words
To be clear:
These are the “bare minimum” requirements to present Terra Luna Classic as a professional and credible blockchain network.
It is no longer realistic to rely solely on a handful of unpaid volunteers.
A structured, compensated, and responsible foundation is essential for the chain’s survival and long-term credibility in 2026 and beyond.
Discussion
This is a discussion proposal, not a finalized on-chain vote.
All points are open to revision, expansion, and community feedback.
